Exploration

The wildness of the hills
Stripped bare before this aching day
Grant me the page
On which to scrawl
My soul.

Rock strewn paths
Deliver truths
In words that I can understand.

Secrets
Exposed;
Barren lichen
On grey hewn stone.

Brooks knit themselves
Through mounds
And moss -
Rivulets of dreams.
Clack clack clack
Into my folklore heart.

Sheep bleat
In circles
Of their own beliefs.

Lambs suckle
At their mother’s breast
And
I
Am
Stilled.

Skies darken,
Sorcerers’ clouds
Snake round the sun.

Jumbled thoughts
Tumble at my feet like hail.

Wind and rain
Lash each other,
Vying
For attention.

Rooks flap their giant wings
Wrap me in their mystery
And call me home.

Life paused
And I looked up.
Freedom glistened in the sky.
The rainbow held
A thousand lives

And this is mine.
